Special Report: Tank Fire in the Distance

by Tom Overlie, Anchor/Producer

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — His name is Russ Gunvalson, he lives in Rochester, and he’s got an amazing story of survival to tell.

Dial back to 1945 — World War Two — Russ, still a teenager, heads to Europe to join the battle, only to be captured by the Nazis and thrown into a POW camp where each day became a struggle to survive.

Many didn’t, but Russ held on, keeping a mantra of six words that helped to keep him going through the long nightmare.

See the attached video for the full story.
