On Monday, September 24 the organization presented its annual report which detailed successes and difficulties and how it hopes to bring more people to Rochester.
Executive director Mary Gastner said one of the main difficulties in attracting more conventions and business is people not knowing enough about the city.
Another issue is hotel space near the Mayo Civic Center.. especially for businesses that want to be able to create blocks for their employees.. a difficulty considering the volume of Mayo Clinic patients.
"What we’re trying to figure out now is the solution to having both of those types of businesses or audiences fit into our city and what that would mean to us. Certainly building more hotels sounds like the easy answer, but in our downtown corridor, we’d have to be really creative to address the number of hotel rooms that we need, in order to meet the needs of these conventions coming into our city." Said Gastner.
Gastner went on to say having the state of the art Civic Center is a tremendous help in attracting conventions to Rochester.
