Stewartville students host ‘Donut Text and Drive’ fundraiser

STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) – Stewartville students came together to support a family who lost two lives in a crash on Highway 14.

The Stewartville National Honor Society sold donated baked goods Thursday morning. 100 percent of the profits are said to be donated to the Harberts family.

The students called it a “Donut Text and Drive” fundraiser.

Many showed their support by wearing purple and picking up a treat for a dollar on their way to class.

“Yeah this is very important to me because it’s not ok for somebody to text and drive and take away two people’s lives. It’s happening a lot, and it just needs to stop,” said Stewartville High School Senior Hannah Kruger.

While the Honor Society was expecting 250 donuts, The Pastry Shoppe donated over 660 donuts.

Rachel and Emerson Haberts were killed when their vehicle was rear-ended in Claremont last month.

Rachel, Emerson and a young boy named Jaxon were in the car during the accident. Jaxon is still on a long road to recovery.

Reports indicate a distracted driver caused the crash.
