Case of whooping cough confirmed in Winneshiek County

DECORAH, Iowa (KWWL) — The Winneshiek County Public Health Department is confirming an identified case of whooping cough.

The condition, also known as pertussis, is a bacterial disease that can cause severe spells of coughing. It’s spread through the air by an infected person’s cough or sneeze.

The Winneshiek County Health Department recommends making sure you’re up to date on Pertussis vaccinations. They’re part of the Tdap and Dtap shots given to children.
