ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – 51-year-old Julio Baez, a former Kasson police officer, plead guilty to 27 sexual misconduct counts in all. Some of which date back to 1998.
Most of the counts, 21 of them, are from Rice county with three each from Olmsted and Dodge counties. All involved underage girls.
The charges from Rice and Olmsted counties are first degree counts, with 2nd degree charges in Dodge county.
The plea is part of an agreement that would have Baez spending 18 years in prison.
The judge will determine how much time Baez will actually serve at his sentencing.
“Mr. Baez will be asked to make some sort of statement on that form as to what he believes occurred, but most importantly the victims will be heard,” said Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem. “That’s a very big part of this, is for the victims to finally have their opportunity to say ‘this is what happened to me and this is how it hurt me’ and things like that. This is all information that will help the judge at the time of sentencing.”
Baez is now being held in Olmsted County jail without bond.
He’s due back in court for sentencing on April 3rd.
