Underground restaurant in Rochester offers unique dining experience

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – While dining out is often about the food and the company, the experience can put your night out over the top.

Jeff and Sarah Schwenker, the husband-wife duo run the new restaurant Marrow under Grand Rounds Brewing Company in downtown Rochester.

The 24-seat restaurant is hoping to draw guests looking for a food experience off the beaten path.

As guests enter, they get a glimpse of the chef working in the kitchen, then travel down a staircase to the low-lit intimate space.

“Our favorite memories are surrounded by the table, food, or beverage, and being with those people that we love and care about, and we get to participate in that on a daily basis,” said Sarah, the restaurant’s lone server and hostess.

The dishes are elaborate but not distracting.

On the weekly menu: Flavors of many lands.Languages. Cultures. Traditions.

Marrow is open Monday – Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Schwenker’s say reservations are recommended.

Chefs are notorious for working long hours, oftentimes on weekends, evenings, and holidays. The three-day a week operation allows the couple to find work-life balance and spend more time with their three children.
