Olmsted History Center opens new exhibit for Black History Month

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – As Black History Month enters its final week, the History Center of Olmsted County is opening a brand new exhibit on Thursday.

The exhibit is called “Traveling While Black.”

It features the challenges faced by black motorists in the Civil Rights Era and how the “Green Book” helped them find welcoming places in a foreign city.

The exhibit looks at Rochester locations in the book, including the Avalon Hotel.

The exhibit will have a free open house Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Historian Frank White is set to speak after the exhibit on “Black Baseball in Minnesota.”
