CLAREMONT, Minn. (KTTC) – Customers at Claremont Post Office are seen walking out with their mail despite a notice from the United States Postal Service saying it would be closed.
In an email Thursday morning, USPS said that they were closing due to s afety concerns for employees at The Claremont Post Office.
The notice said that they would be suspending services at the post office due to excessive snow leading to structural safety issues.
However, KTTC’s Ubah Ali was on scene and noticed that several people were going in and out of the building.
Post office employees were unable to give any further comments.
One customer said that the post office was not closed, but the amount of snow on the roof did worry them about a possible collapse.
The Postal Service’s email noted that the facility is leased and they were working with the landowner to resolve the issue.
The plan in the meantime would be for Claremont customers to get their mail at the Kasson Post Office with a photo I.D. Mail that was in the facility at the time of the closure would not be retrieved until after the building was deemed safe for employees to enter.
