Throwback Thursday: a life-changing appliance delivery

Frigidaire first developed the self-contained refrigerator in 1916, but even into the 1930s, many people still depended on deliveries of ice for their refrigeration needs.

That may be why someone took the time to photograph the unloading of a train car full of Frigidaire’s new “Super Duty” refrigerators in Rochester on March 4, 1937.

Based on all the banners in the photo, it was also great advertising for Hanson’s Hardware, which was located at 1719 South Broadway.
