AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – Dozens of figure skaters will take to the ice this weekend to show off their skills.
The Riverside Figure Skating Club in Austin is preparing for its annual showcase.
This year’s theme is “Skating in ParadICE.”
About 40 young skaters have been practicing for eight weeks.
The show includes a variety of group numbers and solos.
This is the club’s 45th year, and this is Head Coach Chris Amy’s 40th year with the program.
“It does take a lot of discipline,” Amy said. “The kids know they have to practice hard, the moves don’t come easy and lots of times they get a little frustrated with it, but like I tell them, you have to keep trying.”
“Not very many people really understand what figure skating is so you can learn more about it,” said Toria Strampe, a Skating Club member.
The group’s annual figure skating show is this Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Arena.
Tickets can be purchased at the door.
It’s $10 for adults and $5 for kids and seniors.
