Grillin’ & Chillin’: Pie Iron Apple Pie

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — This May, “the boys” are back! Chef Jim from Wildwood Sports Bar & Grill and Barbecue Brent from Energy Products and Design are again firing up the grill for Grillin’ and Chillin’!

Given that KTTC’s Caitlin Alexander is expecting her first child later this summer, the guys are sharing some great kid-friendly recipes!

Here is the recipe and procedure for Pie Iron Apple Pie.

Pie Iron Apple Pie

Ingredients Makes 4
• 1 package of biscuit or Cinnamon roll dough
• 2 apples cored and sliced
• 8 oz package of cream cheese
• 1 tsp salt
• 3 tbs sugar
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1 container of pan spray

Equipment
• Cutting board
• Rolling pin
• Sharp knife
• Pie iron
• Outdoor Grill at 375 degrees
• Parchment paper or paper plate
• Small bowl for tossing apples

Pre-heat grill to 400 degrees (charcoal or gas or a campfire. Brent sells a fantastic grill that will do this
for you from your phone!)

Procedure
Open dough package and separate into 8 pieces , roll each piece flat so just larger than the pie iron
Core and slice apple
Mix together salt, cinnamon, sugar together and sprinkle over apple slices
Sliced cream cheese into 8- 1oz portions/slices
Spray both sides of Pie Iron with pan spray and place on rolled biscuit or cinnamon on each side place
Layer apple slices and cream cheese on top dough and close pie iron over top being sure to pinch the
top and bottom dough together in the iron halves
Trim exposed dough and you are ready to grill!
Accompaniment:
Place on grill and cook each side 10-15 minutes
Remove from grill let sit for a minute than open iron and enjoy
