ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) – Expect paperwork to be filed this week to make Freeborn County the latest community to join a legal complaint against pharmaceutical companies.
County Attorney David Walker revealed the move in a news release Tuesday. It’s a response to the growing opioid crisis in his community and across the country.
The Freeborn County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the legal action in a closed session Tuesday, according to the release. The city hired a law firm to oversee the process, but those attorneys will only get paid if the county receives compensation.
Walker indicated the county hopes to get reimbursed for the cost of the opioid addiction and receive funding for future addiction services. County Attorneys in Austin and Rochester have filed similar complaints.
