ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTTC) – Independence Day has plenty of families out on the roads, but there’s a new concern about making sure there’s enough gas to fuel the patriotic fun.
Governor Tim Walz (DFL- Minn.) issued an executive order Wednesday to address a growing fuel shortage in the state. In a news release, his office explained that the shortage is caused by unanticipated events at refineries in other states disrupting the normal flow of gasoline. That includes last year’s fire at the Husky Energy refinery in Superior, Wisc.
The Governor’s order allows drivers of commercial trucks that deliver gas to work extended hours, beyond normal state regulations.
Walz says motorists are at risk of being stranded during their holiday weekend travels and that extra hours on the road could be the key to keeping the gas pumps working.
