Winona State Football Excited for Training Camp

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) – On August 11, the Winona State will open training camp with their team, as the Warriors return a loaded roster that went 8-3 last year despite injuries to several All-Conference players.

On offense, the Warriors return rising junior quarterback Owen Burke who threw for nearly 2500 yards and 22 touchdowns a season ago. Plus, they’ll get back all-American wide receiver Jake Balliu, a dynamic threat who missed most of last year with an ankle injury after leading all of Division II in punt return yards in 2017.

On defense, All-Conference linebacker Nick Pridgeon returns to a strong unit after hip and knee injuries, and with team camp is just around the corner, the coaches are excited to get back at it.

“Just to be back out on the field, footballs are flying around, guys are popping pads — that for us is kind of our signal that ‘Hey, you know what, our season is right around the corner,'” said Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Cam Keller at the Warriors 13th Annual high school football camp. “We never really turn our heads off when it comes to football. It really is nice though to get back out here and kind of jump start everything for the season, and it gets us talking about what we want to do in August when our guys get here. It’s an exciting time to be back on the field.”

Winona State opens the season on September 7 against Wayne State.
