Vikings Training Camp Day 2

EAGAN, Minn. (KTTC) – Today was Day Two of Vikings Training camp at the sparkling TCO Performance Center, and the biggest topic of discussion for the first two days of football has been the missed opportunity of last season.

Saturday’s practice was the Vikings’ second chance to put last year’s disappointment behind them, as they look to re-establish themselves the team to beat in the NFC North.

There’s no doubt about it — the Vikings have a core of experienced, Pro Bowl-caliber players, and wide receiver Adam Thielen thinks that group will lead the Vikings into the start of the season.

“The veterans on this team know how hard it is to win in this league,” he said. “Regardless of what you did last year, if you went to the Super Bowl or not, you know that you have to come out here, you have to grind, you have to do the little things, you have to work hard because it’s hard to win in this league. You have to be firing on all cylinders when you get to that first game.”

Bailey Feeling the Blues

And stop me if you’ve heard this before — a Vikings kicker is struggling.

After connecting on just 21 of 28 field goals last season, a mark that ranked 31st out of 35 qualified kickers, Dan Bailey struggled on Day 1 of training camp yesterday missing 3 of his 7 field goal attempts.

But new Special Teams Coordinator Marwan Maalouf isn’t too worried about it, he says it’s just part of Bailey getting used to the long snappers he’s working with.

“Yesterday was Day 1. It takes a little time for those guys to get their rhythm back, especially if they’re not together,” said Maalouf. “When he finished OTA’s, [Bailey and the long snappers] were doing really well. Yesterday was Day 1. We’ve got two long snappers, so [he’s] got to get used to a couple different things. It wasn’t all on Dan, you know. We got to clean up the operation.”
