Hundreds celebrate their second chance at life

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Hundreds packed Soldiers Field Park to celebrate a second chance at life.

For about 35 years, the Mayo Clinic has invited its transplant patients, donors, and families to an annual picnic.

The patients range from young kids to adults, and even included a member of the 2004 Team USA hockey team.

After jumping to the top of the transplant list, she says is grateful for the support of the transplant community.

“I mean it’s life or death,” said Julianne Vasichek. “So, there’s a lot of emotions, at the time the transplant is happening, and then afterwards it’s a continuous feeling of gratitude.”

Transplant recipients say organ donors helped save their life.
