Police: 13 animals rescued, 15 found dead in Sumner home

SUMNER, Iowa (KWWL) — The Sumner Police Department says 13 cats and dogs were rescued from an unfit home yesterday.

According to a press release, authorities served a warrant to a home in the 600 block of E. 1st Street after multiple reports of animals living in poor conditions.

The home was found to not be climate controlled and “with poor living conditions.”

13 cats and dogs were surrendered to Last Hope Animal Shelter by the owners for emergency medical care and later adoption.

15 dead animals were recovered from the garage.

This is an ongoing investigation with criminal charges pending.
