One hurt after early Saturday morning crash near Ellendale
NEAR ELLENDALE, Minn. (KTTC) – A 20-year-old from Austin, Minnesota is in Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries after he pulled his car out in front of a semi-truck early Saturday morning.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Evan Horstmann, 20, was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 35 North around 2:15 Saturday morning. He did not have the car’s headlights on at the time. State Patrol did not specify what Horstmann was doing but said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
During that time, a semi-truck was heading north on I-35. State Patrol said Horstmann pulled out in front of the semi and the two collided.
The semi-truck’s driver, 62-year-old Michael Smith was not hurt. Horstmann did suffer non-life threating injuries but is expected to be okay.
The Ellendale Fire Department, Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Mayo Clinic Ambulance, and Mayo One all assisted in the crash.
