Our amazing spell of mild sunshine is over and now we’re dealing with a storm system that will bring some unsettled and rather rough weather over the next few days. While temperatures today are technically mild by seasonal standards, brisk southeast winds and occasional rain will make for a cool and damp situation for our Thursday. We’ll have rumbles of thunder at times through today and this evening with high temperatures in the mid-60s, a few degrees warmer than the seasonal average.
The cold front associated with the upcoming storm system will move through the area after midnight tonight, producing light rain for us and then drawing in much colder air from the northwest. Temperatures will drop from the 50s to the lower 40s between midnight and mid morning Friday with raw southwest winds begin to occasionally reach 30 to 35 miles per hour, yielding wind chill values in the 30s. Most of Friday looks drier behind the front until a few spotty sprinkles or flurries roll in for the early evening.
As the storm system begins to pull away Saturday, more energy will wrap around on its backside, bringing light rain and snow showers to our area. Don’t look for much in the way of accumulation locally as only a trace amount of snowfall will be possible, mainly on grassy surfaces and perhaps the rooftops. High temperatures Saturday will be around 40 degrees with nasty southwest winds gusting to 40 miles per hour to keep our wind chills in the 20s to lower 30s.
There will be a slight chance for some flurries or spotty sprinkles Sunday with a raw westerly breeze and high temperatures will be in the low to mid-40s, about 20 degrees below the seasonal average. Temperatures overall this weekend will be more reminiscent of mid November than mid October, so you’ll need to dig out the cold weather clothing!
Aside from a slight chance of light rain showers Tuesday, we’ll see a drier stretch of weather next week with a very slow warming trend and progressively brighter, sunnier days. High temperatures will go from the mid-40s to the mid-50s from Monday through Friday.
