ROCHESTER SHOOTING: Victim allegedly shot four times by Rochester man

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — A Rochester man is behind bars after police said he shot a man four times in his Southeast Rochester apartment on Sunday morning.

According to the Rochester Police Department, the incident happened at an apartment complex at 1334 4th Avenue SE at about 6:30 a.m.

Police said one woman and three men were in the apartment when a man who police have identified as Abdusalam Omar Hussein, 38, of Rochester allegedly forced his way into the apartment.

Police said the occupants of the apartment were asleep when Hussein entered the apartment and woke up a 25-year-old man who was in his bed. Hussein and the victim reportedly know each other.

After a short conversation, authorities said Hussein felt disrespected by the man, and shot him three times on his lower body, and once on his upper body. His wounds were not life-threatening, and he was taken to the hospital.

Afterwards, authorities said Hussein pulled into the Holiday Gas station on 37th Street NW. An employee of the station was in the parking lot when the suspect pulled up next to him, and asked for a dollar.

Hussein then allegedly told the employee that he had just shot someone in Southeast Rochester. Authorities said he then threatened the employee with the gun before driving away.

RPD said Hussein then called dispatch and admitted to shooting someone. He said he would not turn himself in, but would “shoot it out” with police. He then said that he did not want to hurt anyone.

Police then located Hussein driving on Highway 52 and White Bridge Road NW. Authorities said police tried to pull him over near the intersection of 5th Street NE and White Bridge Road, but Hussein was able to flee.

He increased his speed from 65 to 90 mph and continued eastbound on White Bridge Road. Eventually, once he drove up to Highway 63, he drove into a ditch and his van rolled over.

Police said officers approached the van, kicked out the windshield and told him to get out of the vehicle. Hussein did and authorities arrested him. Authorities said he had a handgun on him at the time of his arrest.

Hussein was brought to Mayo Clinic Saint Marys due to the crash, and he is now in custody at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.

He is facing premeditated attempted murder and felony assault charges.
