UPDATE: Woman killed in north Iowa bank robbery identified

UPDATE:

The vicitim of a shooting during a bank robbery in Lu Verne, Iowa is identified as 43-year-old Jessica Weishaar of Algona, an employee of Security State Bank, the only bank in Lu Verne.

An Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation official says she was just walking into the building when she was shot. The Kossuth County Sheriff's Office says she died at the scene.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect vehicle from surveillance video and witnesses.

Officers later stopped a vehicle matching the description along I-35 near Dows. They arrested the driver.

That person remains in custody but is not yet being identified.

LU VERNE, Iowa (AP) -- Investigators say they have a suspect in custody after a shooting during a bank robbery left one woman dead in a small northern Iowa town.

Mitch Mortvedt of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says a suspect was detained Wednesday, hours after the robbery and shooting at the only bank in Lu Verne.

He says a female employee was "just walking into the bank" when she was shot. Mortvedt says investigators and the county prosecutor plan to release more information about the suspect and the victim later Wednesday.

The Kossuth County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that the woman sustained a gunshot wound and died at the scene.
