ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The holiday season is all about a great time with family, and come Christmas Day maybe a present or two.

In Rochester, the 16th annual Shop with a Cop Program took place at Walmart North, Saturday morning. The event aims to provide a brighter holiday and promote positive relationships between the officers and the youth.

More than 60 officers from various departments helped the kids shop throughout the store for gifts. Each child was given a $115 gift card.

Rochester Police Department Sergeant Ryan Manguson.

"This year we'll be helping out 70 families from Olmsted County area," stated Sergeant Ryan Manguson with the Rochester Police Department. "You give a child $115 dollar gift card and you think the first thing that their gonna do is buy something for themselves. Over the 16 years I've been doing this that's usually one of the last things that these kids are thinking about."

Manguson said it's not all about the holiday shopping, but allowing the youth to have positive interactions with officers.

Through the aisles of Walmart the youngest and bravest in our community worked together to bring a smile to their loved ones faces.
