ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) - Mayo Clinic-Saint Marys took a big step in getting a consistent police presence at their hospital.
The Rochester City Council approved an agreement between Mayo Clinic and the Rochester Police Department on Wednesday night.
Lieutenant Josh Thompson with RPD said that officers are frequently called to the campus for assaults against staff and other incidents.
This new agreement is meant to provide a safer environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Mayo Clinic agreed to pay for three officers to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week.
There are also discussions about expanding the services to 24 hours a day.
