ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) - Several Rochester drivers are complaining about expensive tire repairs and replacements due to metal scraps after driving down 19th Street NW.
Leslie Schueller was driving on the street Thursday. "My low tire light was on. So I got home and I could just hear the air gushing out my tire," said Schueller.
Schueller took her car to an auto shop and workers there showed her what caused the flat.
"They actually took a plier. And pulled out this piece of scrap metal out of one of the tires," Schueller said.
The metal was in her two back tires, but because she has an all-wheel drive, she needed all four tires replaced. The expense was $650.
She then made a social media post and discovered she wasn't the only one that had metal pieces in the tire.
"I just posted it on there, I thought what are the chances I have something in both my back tires and it's just odd-looking, like some scrap metal, and from there it just blew up. And everybody's saying I have the same thing driving on 19th street near the Rochester Athletic Club. And over 50 people pretty much so far I found out so far have had the same incident," Schueller said.
KTTC checked with Discount Tire who said their crews serviced more than 30 customers with the metal scrap between Thursday and Friday. They told us the road has since been swept.
KTTC also reached out to city officials to see about any investigation to where the metal may have come from, but have not yet heard back.
