ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- "Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts was elected as a public trustee by the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees.
According to a news release from Mayo Clinic, Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome five years later. The release said she received a bone barrow transplant from her sister.
Roberts later reportedly teamed up with Be the Match, a nonprofit organization.
"Robin is a remarkable person and journalist who has a tremendous gift to connect with millions of people through storytelling," said Dr. Gianrico Farrugia, Mayo Clinic's president and CEO. "She will bring invaluable perspective given her incredible ability to overcome her own health adversities to become a leading voice and advocate for others."
