ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Rochester Parks Foundation said a splash pad has been the number one request of parents in the area.

The Rochester Parks and Recreation Department had a splash pad in its budget, but cut it out due to unexpected costs.

Now, the Rochester Parks Foundation has launched a fundraiser to fund a splash pad at Lincolnshire Park. Their goal is to raise $100,000. If the money is raised, the splash pad could started construction spring next year.

Rochester Parks Foundation board member Abe Sauer said the Carla and Verna Schmidt Foundation gave a grant of $12,000, and other area businesses made donations as well.

"We know money is tight for many right now, but every dollar counts," Sauer said. "Even pre-COVID, before people were rediscovering the wonder of the parks and being outside and feeling safe and wanting somewhere to go, it was already something people wanted desperately."

Sauer said a splash pad is cost effective, safe and promotes equity for families from all walks of life, and adds value to the city.
