A breezy and cool afternoon

We received quite a dose of much-needed rainfall this morning in most of the area, but now skies have cleared and we have a completely different looking weather picture for the afternoon hours. We'll have sunny skies with a gusty northwest breeze behind this morning's cold front as we wrap up August and meteorological summer on a fall-like note. High temperatures will be in the lower 70s which is about five degrees cooler than the seasonal average. High pressure will move in later today and for tonight, bringing quiet weather to the area. Overnight temperatures will be in the lower 50s with a light west breeze.

Our rainfall deficit heading into Monday was 2.15 inches for the month and 1.77 inches for the year in the city of Rochester.

Spotty Tuesday showers

A weak disturbance will graze our area Tuesday, possibly generating a few spotty rain showers, especially to the southeast of Rochester in the midday and early afternoon hours. With occasional sunshine and a light south breeze, temperatures will make their way into the lower 70s.

A warmer Wednesday

Sunshine and a warm southerly breeze will help temperatures climb quickly into the lower 80s Wednesday afternoon. This shot of warm air will blow into the area ahead of a cold front that will be on its way from the west.

Late week cool down

A cold front will spark a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm mainly in the morning hours Thursday. The afternoon looks bright and mild with a gusty breeze with high temperatures in the lower 70s. Friday will also be on the cool side with morning temperatures in the upper 40s with afternoon highs in the lower 70s.

A mild holiday weekend

Warmer air will build in for Saturday with abundant sunshine and afternoon high temperatures in the lower 80s. A few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible Sunday, mainly early in the day, with high temperatures in the lower 70s and a cool, blustery northwest breeze making for a fall-like afternoon. Labor Day Monday will feature a fair amount of sunshine with high temperatures only in the mid and upper 60s.
