BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) -- The work is just beginning at Byron High School.

After a long break, Head Coach Kyle Finney is preparing his guys for a fight as they come into the season as one of the top teams in a loaded HVL conference.

"We have great coaches all throughout our conference and also great athletes on every team and just know that everybody's game planning and takes it very serious. So night to night you got to be prepared for everything" said Finney.

Its true, the conference is loaded with talent and Byron has one of those guys in forward Ahjany Lee.

"The biggest credit for Ahjany is "jhany" will just do anything we need for us to win and compete he's not all about scoring and all accolades I guess. He's fine grabbing rebounds and getting blocks" said Finney.

This year the Bears will need him to that next step especially as a scorer. A role which Ahjany believes he's ready for.

"I've worked on my outside game a lot just shooting, dribbling, getting to the basket so this year I think I'll have a much bigger role scoring wise same defense just having the ball in my hands more" said Ahjany Lee, Byron Forward.

The forward's game seemingly gets better year after year and colleges are taking notice. Already with offers from Iowa and Minnesota. Lee says he's been talking to Yale, Arkansas and Stanford with more on the way.

Surrounding Lee is a group of talented seniors that have been with the program for some time

"We've got a depth of experience and obviously the state rankings and the prep hoops and things like that they're kind of taking about some of our kid quite a bit because of that people want we got" said Finney.

Its what they have that has placed a target on Byron's back and Coach Finney hopes to prepare his team for that.

Just hard work and hard effort knowing that there's a target on our back this year. Knowing that we need to come into each game knowing that they other team's are wanting to take us out and take that as a challenge and just know that you got to bring it every night" said Finney.
