NEAR ORONOCO, Minn. (KTTC) -- A pair of Pine Island firefighters rescued a dog that fell through the ice on Lake Zumbro Thursday afternoon.

At about 12:15 p.m. a caller reported a dog submerged in the water unable to pull himself out near the 100 block of Shorewood Lane NE. Responding crews spotted the dog about 50 yards offshore.

Two firefighters in wetsuits went into the lake and pulled the black lab to shore. They dried him off in a fire truck until staff from Camp Companion could take possession.

The dog had a collar but no tags.

Also assisting at the scene was the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
