MDH commissioner Jan Malcolm receives Johnson and Johnson vaccine

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (KTTC) -- It was an important day for one Minnesota health leader.

The state Department of Health (MDH) Commissioner Jan Malcolm received her single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine from Allina Health Wednesday. The site vaccinates nearly 800 people a day.

Malcolm has worked alongside three governors in her time as MDH commissioner. Gov. Tim Walz says her experience was much needed during this pandemic.

"Having Jan Malcolm and her experience at the helm of Minnesota Department of Health during the greatest health threat of the past 100 years has put Minnesota in a better position."

"I particularly wanted to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to demonstrate my confidence in the effectiveness of this vaccine. I know folks have had questions have had questions about whether this vaccine is as effective as others," Malcolm said. "You have heard public health officials say that it is extremely effective, especially where it matters most."

Malcolm says where she received that vaccine also holds personal significance. The Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute was part of merger she helped oversee in 2013.
