ROCHESTER, Minn.(KTTC) -- It's been awhile.
"This is the longest period of time in 31 years that I haven't coached some sport or another. The last time we played was October of 2019, we took the field was March of 2021 so that's a long time in between," said Derrick Hintz, RCTC Head Coach.
But the wait is over, RCTC Football finally got back to the field for spring ball this year.
"I think the first couple practices we were a little bit rusty, but we continually got better practice by practice. We ended up two of our last three practices were probably two of the best practices I've been involved in," said Hintz.
The practices finally gave Coach Derrick Hintz a chance to look at what he has to work with for the fall season and it's safe to say he's a fan.
"We're more talented than I expected we were going to be. Offensively I think we're going to be dangerous, defensively I think we're going to be dangerously aggressive we've got the athletes to help that, back that up whatever you want to say."
While he likes what's on the field, he's also patiently waiting for what's to join the Yellowjackets in the fall, a very selective recruiting class.
"I'm not just recruiting 2021's I'm recruiting 2020 guys that never found a home. I mean we're getting all kinds of guys in that I'm going through their film and talking to them and talking to parents and recruiting," said Hintz.
It's clear Hintz has a lot to be excited about and he's confident the team will take the field in the fall.
"RCTC has made the commitment to play sports in the fall, it's looking like 21-22 season everybody's going to be playing."
