A cool Wednesday; warmer weather returns tomorrow

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

Cool with flurries and sprinkles today

The same weather pattern that we've been experiencing each of the past two days will play out again for our Wednesday as a rather cold air mass lingers in the Upper Mississippi Valley while another round of upper-level energy in the atmosphere will trigger a few spotty rain and snow showers this afternoon. Expect flurries and sprinkles this afternoon with high temperatures in the lower 40s with a brisk northwest breeze reaching 15 miles per hour at times keeping wind chill values in the low to mid-30s.

Sunnier and warmer for Thursday

A warmer air mass will build into the region for Thursday as surface high pressure slides in from the northwest, providing our area with abundant sunshine. Temperatures will warm quickly from the upper 20s in the early morning to the upper 50s in the afternoon hours with the help of that bright sunshine and a slight southwest breeze that will reach 15 miles per hour at times.

Friday rain

A weak storm system will move in from the west, thickening our cloud cover late Thursday night and then triggering a few light rain showers for Friday, starting early in the morning with activity becoming more widely scattered in the afternoon before tapering off in the early evening. High temperatures will be in the mid-50s with a light south breeze.

A bright, seasonable weekend

Clouds will slowly clear off on Saturday with sunnier skies in the afternoon warming our temperatures into the lower 50s, but with a brisk northwest breeze that may add a chill to the air at times.

Sunday is looking bright and seasonable with a stray shower or two in the midday and early afternoon. With occasional sunshine and clouds later in the day, high temperatures will reach the low to mid-50s across the area.

Much warmer next week

Warmer air will blow into the region to start the upcoming workweek, setting the stage for a May-like stretch of weather in the area. We'll have a fair amount of sunshine Monday combining with a gusty south breeze to warm temperatures in the upper 60s.

We'll continue to warming process on Tuesday with a south breeze and occasional sunshine warming temperatures into the lower 70s. A few isolated thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon and evening as a storm system slowly approaches from the west.

We'll have clouds and light showers with a few isolated thunderstorms next Wednesday and high temperatures in the lower 60s. Shower chances will then continue through Thursday with high temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Drier weather will return for next Friday in the wake of the midweek storm system and sunshine will warm temperatures into the lower 60s for the final day of April.
