Warm sunshine today
Warm air continues to flow into the region today on the backside of the high pressure that was responsible for providing us with stellar weather on Sunday. We'll enjoy plenty of sunshine throughout the day with high temperatures in the upper 70s with a southeast breeze that will reach 15 miles per hour at times.
A storm system to our south will graze the area Tuesday, bringing clouds and then some widely scattered showers in the late morning and afternoon hours. High temperatures tomorrow will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees with a southeast breeze that will reach 15 miles per hour at times.
Showers and storms later this week
A shift in our weather pattern this week will mean warmer, more unsettled conditions for the area. The upper-level flow will swing around to the southwest and that means warmer, more humid weather will be drawn into the Upper Mississippi Valley, priming the atmosphere for showers and thunderstorms for much of the week. A couple of disturbances will move in at times, triggering showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. Even with just limited sunshine, high temperatures for both days will be in the upper 70s with a south breeze that will reach 25 miles per hour at times.
Rainfall this week is looking generally light overall with less than an inch expected, but at least we'll likely be able to put a small dent in our rainfall deficit for this month that now stands at 1.30 inches. Our deficit for the year stands at 4.17 inches and most of the area is still in a Moderate Drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
A summer-like weekend
Even warmer air will build in for Friday and the weekend with a fair amount of sunshine helping the cause as temperatures soar into the lower 80s at times. There will be a chance of a few isolated thunderstorms late in the day Friday and for a portion of Saturday afternoon and evening. Both days will feature high temperatures in the low to mid-80s. A cold front will trigger more widespread thunderstorms Sunday with high temperatures in the upper 70s.
