TRAVEL ALERT: MnDOT No Travel Advisory lifted from Ellendale to Iowa border

UPDATE: MnDOT has lifted the No Travel Advisory for I-35 from Ellendale to the Iowa border.

The advisory for Highway 105 from Austin to Iowa lifted about an hour after.

ALBERT LEA, Minn.  (KTTC) – In a news release Tuesday evening, the Minnesota Department of Transportation issued a travel advisory for Interstate 35 from Highway 30 at Ellendale to the Iowa border.

MnDOT says there is poor visibility and blowing snow. Wind speeds along the highway are being clocked at 25 mph.

State plows are on the roads, but the blowing snow is making travel unpredictable.

There are several reports of jack-knifed semi trailers along that corridor.

MnDOT offers these tips for safer winter driving:

  • Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and often with little warning. They also may travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
  • Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow. Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
  • Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
  • Turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt.
  • Turn off the cruise control.
  • Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip.
  • Don’t drive distracted.
