Smooth jazz fills the winter Winona sky

WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) — While Jazz has been around for a while, the monthly “Jazz Jam” at Island City Brewery in Winona is still relatively new.

A collaboration between the Island City Brewery management and the H3O Jazz Trio keeps the building alive to the tune of jazz on the third Sunday night of each month.

While the jam is led by H3O, it’s open for anyone who has a hankering to play some smooth or soulful jazz, with a wide selection of songs available.

For the group involved, they couldn’t imagine their lives without jazz.

“It’s amazing and scary all at the same time, because you never know what’s going to happen. Jazz is completely spontaneous and improvisational and I think that’s what we all love about it, is that basically the only thing we’ve got in front of us for music, is maybe the melody and the chorus and everything else is up to interpretation,” said Eric Heukeshoven, H3O member and St. Mary’s University Assistant Professor of Music.

Jazz Jam goes from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and this weeks jam also helped to fund raise for the annual Winona Sister City Program, sending students to Misato, Japan.
