ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – JCPenney announced that it will be closing 18 full-line stores due to low holiday sales and a large leftover inventory from 2018.
Three of the stores included in the 18 were announced in early 2019.
The company also said that it planned on closing nine home and furniture stores in efforts to get the best resources to stores for the greatest long-term value.
In a statement to KTTC, a representative confirmed that while the full list of store closures are not publicly available, the company does not plan to close any stores in Minnesota or Iowa at this time.
Associates affected by the closures are expected to receive separation benefits including assistance identifying other employment opportunities and outplacement services like resume writing and interview preparation.
Almost all 18 stores are expected to close in the second quarter of 2019.
