ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – With Easter just around the corner, Christians around the world gathered Friday for Good Friday. In downtown Rochester, an annual tradition took to the streets.

The “Way of the Cross” walk has been a tradition at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church since the early 2000’s.

The church led a procession through downtown late Friday afternoon, making stops along the way at Peace Plaza and Mayo Garden for music and scripture readings. The walk finished at the cathedral for an evening service.

Church members say the walk helps them reflect on holy week.

“This walk is really about being open and reflecting about the cross and Jesus,” St. John’s member Tony Miller said. “But in a way that’s real and not sentimental and, just real, being real”

Rain, shine or sometimes even snow doesn’t stop this tradition.

Miller adds every year the church sings the same hymns, but each year they bring new meaning.
