ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Protests continue over a move by the Rochester Park Board to pave the Soldiers Field Park track.

Members of the Rochester Track Club got up early to stage a 15-hour “Save the Track” run.

They started at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and until 8:30 p.m., they’ll be out there running along the track.

The group believes paving it with asphalt would ruin the track, making it easier to get injured and hotter in the summers.

The Park Board says it’s the most affordable option and makes the space better for hosting large events.

The track club points out it’s the only public running track with a natural surface in town.
