Olmsted County’s 61st annual rabies vaccination clinic underway

OLMSTED COUNTY, Minn. (KTTC) – The 61st annual rabies vaccination clinic in Olmsted County is running all day Wednesday.

Dog, cat and ferret owners came out to Jeff’s Little Store along Marion road Wednesday morning for convenient rabies vaccinations.

Local veterinarians and Volunteers are providing the shots for $20 each.

Although rabies is commonly found in wild animals like raccoons and skunks, vaccinated pets prevent the spread of the virus from wildlife to humans.

“Well a lot of these animals here, if we don’t do it at this they aren’t going to get vaccinated…and it’s something that’s pretty important from the public health standpoint.” Said Veterinarian Larry Predmore.

“These people are all volunteers. Most of them have been here for quite a few years. For us it’s kind of an interesting day to go out and see the different people and the different critters that come in.” Said Predmore.

Pet owners are encouraged to bring their animals in pet carrier devices or on a leash.
