Trump confronts liberal Minneapolis ahead of key rally

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Donald Trump is headed to the liberal stronghold of Minneapolis for his first re-election rally since impeachment talk heated up.

Trump is expected to draw an overflow crowd of fans Thursday at Target Center, the city’s basketball arena.

The president is embracing the impeachment conflict, trading insults with the city’s Democratic mayor this week and briefly threatening a lawsuit over disputed security costs around the event.

Trump lands in Minnesota as polls show Americans’ support for impeachment and for removing him from office have ticked up since House Democrats launched an impeachment investigation.

Protesters have vowed to turn out by the thousands for the rally.

The president will be joined by Vice President Mike Pence.
