ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – The Berkman Luxury Apartments project next to Mayo Clinic Saint Mary’s hit a milestone Wednesday.
The crews “topped off” the project rising above 2nd Street SW. Construction companies tend to hold a “topping off” celebration to honor construction workers as they wrap up adding to the building.
The Berkman Apartment is named after Dr. Plummer’s wife Daisy Berkman Plummer to recognize her influence in Rochester.
Wednesday’s event also recognized the hard work construction workers have already put into the building.
Justin Forthun, a construction worker with Northland Concrete and Masonry says growing with the city is vital, “When a city grows this fast you know you need building like this.”
Bob Lux is the founder of Alatus a developing company behind the Berkman says people are looking for walk ability, sustainability and livability.
Lux has had his eyes on Rochester for a number of years saying, “We have to make it so that Rochester Minnesota is more attractive than Silicon Valley and that is really the goal of this building.”
A hefty goal that would not be met without the hard work of more than 250 men and women.
“It’s a lot of work pouring all this concrete 14 stores lot of late days, lot of late hours um but there is a lot of work to come,” said Forthun.
Lux describes the Berkman as an “amenity rich” living space, something many people are looking for.
“That have restaurants have co-working spaces have the amenities package that uh people really wanna be around so that they no longer have to belong to a health club,” said Lux. “Not a typical you know four to six story stick building we wanted to come up with something that was 100 year asset.”
Residents will not be able to move in until February 2020, but anyone interested can still check out all the Berkman Luxury Apartments have to offer, at this link.
