On this Throwback Thursday, a guest visits the Olmsted county school fair.
The first annual Olmsted County School Fair opened on September 30, 1909. The fair had a special guest speaker: James J. Hill, a railroad tycoon.
Despite being a railroad man, Hill arrived in Rochester in a touring car, as seen here. After meeting with Rochester’s most notable people, including Dr. William J. Mayo.
Hill went to the fair where he delivered an address to a throng of people. He was described as plain speaking, but able to hold “his audience in the keenest attention.”
