ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A new European bistro is set to open in the Rochester Avalon building on North Broadway Rd.

What started as a coffee cart at the Rochester Farmers Market is now being relocated to a building that was formerly known as the first hotel in Rochester to accept African American guests.

European inspired drinks and pastries will be made available in the century old Avalon building.

The idea came after a two year search for Le Petit Cafe Owner Deirdre Conroy to find the perfect home to bring her bistro to life.

Conroy said she did not want to turn down the chance to move into the historic brick-walled building and champions her partnerships with local businesses.

“This would be somewhere that you’d be so happy to invite people into and be proud of that,” said Conroy. “We try to use as much local and regional products as we possibly can.”

She hopes that to have 14 employees when the bistro officially opens.

“That would be everything that’s needed for the kitchen, front house, bar and eventually we’ll have a patio area,” Conroy said.

According to Conroy, the best part about this move is not having to put a roof up everyday.
