Serious crash closes highway near Stewartville

NEAR STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) – A Volkswagen Jetta sedan crashed into a piece of farm machinery Tuesday morning hospitalizing the car’s driver.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, at about 9:30 a.m., the car was going west on Highway 30 near Stewartville when it attempted to pass a line of vehicles in front of it. At that time a sprayer, which was at the front of the line at the time, was turning left onto a field. The car ended up running into the sprayer. The Jetta rolled several times before coming to a stop.

MSP says the emergency crews took the Volkswagen’s driver, identified as 80-year-old Larry Turner of Stewartville, to Mayo Clinic Saint Marys via Mayo 1 Helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The sprayer’s driver was uninjured.

Highway 30 is closed in the area for a few hours but has since reopened.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s deputies were helping at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
