Man arrested after alleged paramedic assault, escape from ambulance

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — A man is was arrested after an alleged assault of a paramedic and escape from an ambulance.

Police said the alleged assault took place on Monday, July 15 at 2:45 a.m. An ambulance was transporting 19-year-old Andru Grajeda to Mayo Clinic – Saint Marys from alcohol detox, police said, when he reportedly removed the straps holding him down and repeatedly punched the 30-year-old paramedic.

The alleged assault took place in the 3000 block of Highway 52 Southwest, police said.

Police said they found the suspect on Highway 52 South on 16th street, and that he resisted arrest before being handcuffed. Police added that they believe Grajeda thought he was being arrested while he was in the ambulance, and that there was a language barrier.

Grajeda is facing a fourth degree assault charge, which is a felony charge, police said.
