ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — Tails were wagging all around at a local breeding club’s annual specialty event on Friday morning.

Yellow, black and chocolate labs were on hand, and plenty of them! There were 67 dogs entered in the North Star Labrador Retriever Club’s 2019 Specialty competition.

Kathy Benson, who has been a Labrador breeder for five years, attended the event with her dog Justice.

Benson said her dogs help her serve an important purpose.

“I take my dogs to work with me,” she said. “I’m a therapist and an addictions counselor. And when they get to the right point in their training and their age, they go to work with me. And that is pretty awesome as you can tell she’s a puppy, and this is new to her.”

Benson said having her dogs at therapy help make her clients feel more comfortable and relaxed, especially if it’s their first time with her.

As for Justice the lab, Benson said she was extra jumpy in the ring on Friday and more interested in playing with the other puppies than the judges.
