BYRON, Minn. (KTTC)– Authorities are searching for a Byron man that escaped deputies on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Price, 31, was facing burglary and fleeing charges from January. There was an apprehension order out for Price, who authorities said failed to maintain contact with his probation officer. He has at least three previous convictions, including controlled substance crimes and fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
On Oct. 15, his ex-girlfriend reportedly contacted authorities, concerned that Price was suicidal.
Four days later, authorities were notified of an abandoned pickup truck in the yard of somebody’s home in Marion, authorities said. The vehicle was registered to Price’s ex-girlfriend, and authorities believed Price was operating it.
Later that morning, around 7:37 a.m., authorities believe Price stole a 2008 Toyota Sienna from a nearby cul-de-sac in the 4200 Block of Maple Court SE. Deputies said the keys were left inside of it. It had a license plate number of BCH235.
Deputies said on Sunday, Oct. 20, authorities spotted Price driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu in the intersection of 7th Street and 2nd Avenue NW. Authorities said he took off, driving through the city of Byron at high speeds.
Authorities said at some point he was picked up by an acquaintance in a gold Cadillac, but eventually returned to the Malibu.
Deputies said he eventually stopped in the 700 Block of 3rd Avenue. Deputies said he exited the car, fled on foot, and was able to escape.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, his ex-girlfriend may be helping or harboring him. During the initial call on Oct. 15, deputies said she was cooperative. But a few days later, she was uncooperative with authorities.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help in this case. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
