MADISON, Wisc. (KTTC) – Wild defenseman Ryan Suter was back in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, this week to help out the USHL team he owns a stake in — the Madison Capitols.
Suter is entering his 15th NHL season, and eighth with the Wild, so he’s seen the up’s and down’s of a franchise trying to break into the elite level of the National Hockey League.
The Wild added right-wingers Mats Zuccarello and Ryan Hartman this offseason, and Suter hopes the pair can help take the team to the next level.
“We’ve gone through so many different stages since I’ve been there,” he said. “They had made the playoffs, then we made the playoffs on a consistent basis, and then obviously we didn’t make it this year. Some new guys are coming in. Kind of the core is still together, which I’m excited about. I think we’ve got really good guys, and then to add these couple pieces that we’ve added I think are going to make us better. We’re not far away. I think a lot of people are counting us out.”
