Matt joined KTTC in June of 2016 and is excited to be back in his home state of Minnesota. Born and raised in Eden Prairie, Matt has always had a fascination with the weather and is no stranger to what we experience here in Minnesota. From a very young age he always kept an eye on the sky and watched every local weather cast. It wasn’t until he started school at the University of North Dakota that Matt knew he wanted to be on TV and become a broadcast meteorologist. While at the University of North Dakota, Matt was part of several weather segments that featured weather broadcasts for the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota, the entire state of North Dakota as well as the southern prairie provinces of Canada. Matt graduated from the University of North Dakota with degrees in Atmosphere Sciences and Environmental Geography.
Prior to coming to KTTC, Matt was with the NBC affiliate – WJFW in Rhinelander, Wisconsin for eight and a half years. While in Rhinelander, Matt got his start as the Weekend Meteorologist in 2008, but was quickly promoted to Morning Meteorologist before taking over as Chief Meteorologist in 2010. Matt is a member of the American Meteorological Society and earned his Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) honor in 2013.
In his free time, you’ll find Matt wetting a line on the numerous streams and rivers across the Driftless Area. In the fall, you may find him near a pond or in the woods hunting and in the winter you can find him out on the ice looking into a hole! Besides fishing and hunting, Matt enjoys camping and pretty much anything that involves being outdoors. If you see him out and about, don’t hesitate to say hi!
