Heavy snow and blowing snow create a mess for our Tuesday; Snow totals listed below

Remaining Ad Time Ad - 00:00

A large storm system moving through the region today is again bringing heavy snow to the area, making for a sloppy, messy Tuesday. The heaviest bands of snow have already moved to the east as the system’s center works its way toward the Great Lakes, but on its backside, we’re going to have to deal with light snow and some stronger winds for the rest of the day. Look for an inch of snowfall this afternoon with occasional light snow continuing through the early evening. Storm totals will be around six to twelve inches overall, the heaviest totals east in the area along the Mississippi River. Winds, meanwhile, will be become rather gusty in the mid to late afternoon, causing blowing and drifting of that snow for the evening commute. Temperatures will remain steady in the low to mid 20s.

High pressure will bring quiet sunshine for Wednesday with seasonably chilly high temperatures in the lower 20s and a lighter south breeze, so a peaceful situation for us on the heels of today’s strong winter storm.

A weaker storm system will graze the area to the north Thursday, bringing a little light snow or a few pockets of freezing drizzle in the afternoon and early evening, but little if any accumulation is expected. High temperatures will be in the mid 20s with a brisk northwest breeze.

After a couple of sunny, chilly days with high temperatures in the teens Friday and Saturday, another storm system looks to bring a chance of light snow for Sunday, but right now it doesn’t look nearly as strong as today’s storm system.

Here’s a list of snowfall totals from southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa and southwest Wisconsin, the coverage area for the National Weather Service in La Crosse.
